At the end of the day, it comes down to this!
Read it again and again! When I first read the above phrase, it was a revelation to me! I have to admit not a new revelation but a forgotten one…
Close your eyes and think of those who passed your life or who are still in your life. Just close your eyes and forget anything else. Think of them, focus on their visual picture. Feeling your feelings (emphasis!), you will discover that only love can overwhelm your senses. Forget the fights, the disagreements, the conflicts, the mistrust, the grief. Just visualize them as for first time.
When I experienced that, I truly felt the light of God warming my heart. We write and talk too much about love, any kind of love, agape, philia, eros etc. But as life is perception, that’s how love is in our minds: a perception! We understand it differently, we have different expectations from love and we define even God’s love in various ways.
We can teach love for hours. We can teach how to love each other, what steps to follow, how to practically give love, how to speak about love, what words to use and so on and so on.
We teach that we need to control our feelings. We ought to control our thoughts so we can control our feelings. We should not live our life according to our feelings.
When I read “There is nothing more: to love and to be loved” the feeling is above any feeling.
Love is not just any feeling. It has no definition. It just exists! It is what it is! It is above any feeling; a feeling that cannot be controlled. It is a feeling that we can just feel and not explain.
“Love suffers long [and] is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Father God, I pray that we allow love to overwhelm our life, other people’s lives. To love with a love without limitation and without fear, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, amen!
